Nestled at the edge of Port Susan bay, Warm beach is a small, close-knit, old-fashioned neighborhood. People walk their dogs, wave at every passer-by, share garden produce, lend a helping hand when needed, and watch out for each other. The houses on the water look west across at Camano Island, north toward Stanwood, and southwest at the Olympic mountains. Sunsets are an occasion nearly every evening, year round, to pause and enjoy. Port Susan provides habitat through the seasons for a myriad of water fowl, seals, otters, whales, and harbor porpoises.

Going Green at the Beach sits on a modest 30 foot shoreline lot, a mere 15 steps from the water. At low tide you can walk the beach for more than a mile in either direction. The home is clad in durable Hardiplank fiber-cement board with custom-painted faux shingles. The metal roof has at least a 50 year life. Milgard windows are rated U.30 or U.29 and the home is insulated with Icynene blown-in insulation. That combined with the advanced framing creates a super-energy efficient structure. A green roof helps reduce storm water runoff, provides some temperature control to the house, as well as habitat for birds and insects.

A small lot with a big attitude, every square foot is used and there are multiple spaces for entertaining or just relaxing. On the water side of the house is a 2-tier garden with mature small apple trees and space for lots of vegetables. It is watered by a drip system that is fed by a 650 gallon rain-water cistern which captures rain from the main house roof. A smaller rain barrel that captures rain from the guest suite/garage roof helps feed the drip system in the front garden. The front garden also boasts a custom-made, whimsical bathtub water feature. On the beach side a custom-built greenhouse sprouts above the bulkhead fashioned from reclaimed wood and glass.

The main house is 2750 square feet divided into 3-1/2 floors. There are 2 bedrooms on the second floor of the main house and a third guest suite which is 350 square feet. The main house boasts 4 bathrooms; the guest suite has one.
