Power House

The home is heated with in-floor radiant heat on all levels, the source of which is geothermal heat supplied through a ground source heat pump. The geothermal system is so efficient that it produces more heat than is needed for the floor heat so the residual is fed into a tank that sends preheated water through the tankless water heater. A separate tankless water heater supplies the hot water and in-floor radiant heat for the guest suite above the garage. A modest, expandable solar array on the garage provides power to a back-up battery system that supplies electricity when there is an outage and also produces about 10% of the home’s power usage.

A whole house fan connected to a heat recovery ventilator further reduces the power usage of the home by capturing the heat from stale air before it is discharged and replaced with fresh air.
