The Cellar

The Cellar

Another set of teak stairs leads down from the great room to the lower level of the home which boasts a world-class, temperature-controlled wine cellar, large enough to seat at least 4 people. The hand-crafted racking system (made from reclaimed wood from the old decking) holds at least 1200 bottles.  A special “island” fixture, topped with custom-made Italian ceramic tiles, holds large format bottles. A plaster alcove sits above a reclaimed cabinet from the old cabin, covered now in a patchwork of wooden wine box panels and topped with a piece of Kirei board. Above the alcove is a custom-made, hand-welded wine glass holder. With speakers connected to the home’s sound system and multiple lighting options that are dimmable, the cellar can be transformed into an intimate entertaining spot.

Also located on the lower level are:

  • A 3/4 bath complete with over-sized steam shower and custom tile work
  • A craft/work room outfitted with cabinetry and doors salvaged from the old cabin and a Paperstone work counter
  • A large conditioned space for storage and the heat recovery ventilator
  • The engine room (with geothermal heat pump, propane tank-less water heater, etc.–see “Power House” post for details)
  • Large under-stair storage closet with custom rolling carts to organize items
  • Custom “sand” wall mural
  • A door leading outside to the lower patio
